I have come a long way since I was a scrappy freckle-faced sixth-grader, taking pictures of anything and everything! What started out as an addiction to my dad's old camera has turned into the best job ever: Serving couples during the happiest season!
And, the best part is--I fall in love with this job all over again every time I pick up my camera. Once, my husband told me, "You know you love it when you come home so energized!" And that is true! I love making someone's best day ever, even better!
Because that is ultimately what this is all about... serving YOU! Of course, I care deeply about telling your story with artistry and delivering a stunning final gallery. But I care even more about YOU! This is YOUR story. Let me tell it.
I grew up an Air Force kid, so nowhere was ever truly "home"... until Huntsville. I've been here for 10 years now, and I never want to leave. There's just something about those rolling hills, Southern hospitality, and the perfect blend of city and countryside. Travel is fun, but Alabama is home.
While I was in college for Speech Pathology, I met a handsome engineer at church and could not have predicted the whirlwind that would follow! After graduation, I came home to marry him, and we now have a beautiful little girl together. I feel impossibly blessed in my role as wife and mom. It's only increased my passion for photography, as we seek to build our own family legacy.
Give me a 10-mile hike over a beach day any day! I am so blessed that my husband feels the same way! Hiking was how we got to know each other, and together we have traversed Scotland, the Smokies, Acadia, Glacier, and vast portions of the Southeast. Adventuring is 10x more fun now that we're a family.
When it comes to my favorite pastimes, I really am a "jack of all trades, master of none." I love it all! Sourdough, sewing, crochet, reading, pottery... there's just not enough time in the day to do all the cozy things I love to do. I truly am a creative at heart.
Ok, you knew I had to say this one. I just love weddings. There's something exhilarating & deeply poignant about them. The wedding day itself is a miniature story--one that opens up a new chapter for man and wife. And yet it's just one tiny chapter amidst generations of stories. It's legacy... as art. It's hard to put into words, but I love it. I am just so addicted to serving couples by telling their story.
She was very organized and quick while still making the whole experience enjoyable and memorable!
I started Emily Thornton Photography in 2021 (only then it was Emily Drown Photography)--but it wasn't until 2024 that the IMPORTANCE of photography really crystallized in my mind. Summer 2024 was my wedding day. And choosing to invest in photography was a decision I will NEVER regret. Our photographer didn't just give us the epic veil shots--she gave us the in-between pictures, too: My in-laws holding hands in the church pew, my sister furiously scribbling her speech at the reception, my friends and I singing the doxology.
Our wedding photos are precious to me. And now that I have a daughter, they are all the more precious. God has richly blessed me through my little family, and photos make me pause and give Him thanks!
There's nothing I'd rather do than document the blessings of our good God!
